The S*** about your hair you need to know...
Girls guys and everyone in between..Happy Monday!
With it being Easter yesterday I took the liberty of postponing the blog one day because lets be real you will all of been out partayinggg!
So as always sit back relax and educate those minds!
Today it's all about our hair! These are things I think most people don't know but should know for healthier, longer lasting hair.
- Don't touch your hair too much.
- Avoid hot showers
- Shampoo strategically
- Use silk to plump up the volume
Yep, that's right. Constantly running your fingers through your mane might feel comforting, but it's not doing your hair any favors.
First off, all that handling can strip your strands of their natural oils, leaving them dry, brittle, and prone to breakage. Think split ends and frizz galore. Not exactly the look we're going for, right? Plus, touching your hair all the time can transfer dirt, oil, and bacteria from your hands to your strands, which can lead to scalp irritation, dandruff, and even infections. Yikes!
But wait, there's more. Manipulating your hair excessively can also mess with its texture and overall health. You see, constantly tugging and pulling can disrupt the alignment of the hair cuticles, causing frizz and dullness. And nobody wants lackluster locks, am I right?
So, what's the solution? Well, it's simple: hands off the hair! Try to resist the urge to touch your mane unnecessarily throughout the day. Your hair will thank you for it, trust me. Instead, focus on using gentle hair care products, like hydrating shampoos and conditioners, to keep your locks looking and feeling their best..
2. Avoid hot showers...
I might sound crazy but gurllll listen; those hot showers may be sexy but the damaging effects of hot water on your hair? not so sexy.
Sure, there's nothing quite like a long, steamy shower to relax and unwind after a hectic day, but did you know that all that heat could be wreaking havoc on your locks? Yep, that's right. Hot water can actually strip your hair of its natural oils, leaving it dry, brittle, and prone to breakage. This is because hot water opens up the hair cuticles, making it easier for moisture to escape. Plus, excessive heat can also cause the scalp to produce more oil, leading to greasy roots and scalp issues. So, next time you step into the shower, try turning down the temperature a notch and opting for lukewarm water instead. Your hair will thank you for it!
3. Shampoo strategically...
There are a couple of things I would like people to understand in relation to shampoo but the main two are to wash your hair less and wash it strategically.
Washing your hair less frequently might seem counter intuitive, but trust us, it's a game-changer for the health and appearance of your locks. Here's the deal: over washing can strip your hair of its natural oils, leading to dryness, frizz, and breakage. By spacing out your washes, you give your scalp a chance to regulate its oil production, resulting in healthier, more balanced hair. Plus, less washing means less exposure to harsh chemicals found in many shampoos, which can further damage your strands. So, embrace the #NoPoo movement and give your hair a break – you'll be amazed at the results! Most people rub the mid-lengths and ends of their hair while shampooing. This is when tangles occur, as the hair cuticles raise when they are swelled with water – and raised cuticles can lock together, causing a tangle. The best way to stop this process is to concentrate shampoo on the scalp, he advises. It’s sufficient for cleansing – when the shampoo works its way to the ends during the rinsing process, it will pick up surface dirt along the way, leaving hair clean and without damage.
4. Use silk to plump the volume...
This is the perfect hack for limp hair...
Sleeping with your hair tied up [on the crown of your head] will give your roots a lift and create long-lasting volume. Dry or wet hair both work equally well here, but a silk hair tie is key. It reduces the friction, tension and breakage that could come from a traditional hair elastic.
I hope this week's blog has opened your eyes to the TLC your hair needs. With summer around the corner doing these things will keep your hair naturally hydrated, healthy and less damaged.
And if you want a little something extra... add something to your hair routine that contains Vitamin C for an instant shine and glow.
Take care of your hair and in the words of L'Oreal "Because we're worth it"
Ciao xxx
